The FILELINK utility can be used to transfer files between two computers connected by their serial ports at speeds ranging from 9600 to 115200 BAUD. The host, running MUDOS 5.1 (or higher) acts as MASTER while the remote computer running DOS operates as SLAVE. The direction of transfers can be initiated at the remote computer as well as the host computer.

1. Begin your first time setup by defining the com port to be used at the host computer as an AUX channel. Do this by using the SETUP utility under DR Multiuser DOS.
2. Connect the com port on the host computer with the serial port on the remote computer with cabling shown in Figure 1.

NOTE: To use this chart, take the connector type column for one computer and match it with the type of connector  on the other computer. Then read the numbers on each line from one column to the other. With this chart you can link four possible connector configurations: 25 to 25, 25 to 9, 9 to 9 and 9 to 25.

3. Type the following command at the host computer: FILELINK SETUP COM#:BAUD here # represents either 1 or 2 and BAUD can range from 9600 to 115200. The system will respond with: FILELINK configured for COM#:BAUD
4. Next, type the command: FILELINK DUP at the host computer. The prompt will then ask you to enter the COM port to be used at the remote computer. After you respond, the system will ask that you run two commands at the remote computer for setting up the remote COM port. When you run the two commands at the remote computer, it will be put into a wait state (with a blinking cursor). Hit the enter key at the host computer. It should report: Attempting connection....successful
5. The host computer will announce that it is transferring LOADER. This will take 45 seconds.
6. At the remote computer there will be a statement that the loader FILELINK.EXE has been received. The remote computer will then be put in a receive state. AT THIS POINT THE REMOTE COMPUTER IS READY TO RECEIVE FILES FROM THE HOST COMPUTER
7. To send a file to the remote, enter the command: FILELINK TRANSMIT The system will indicate the file is being sent by displaying a character count of transmitted characters.
8. To show a DIRECTORY of files at the remote end use the command FILELINK DIRECTORY. If you wish to view all subdirectories use the command FILELINK DIRECTORY /S/P.
9. To receive a file from the remote use the command: FILELINK RECEIVE , where is the name of the file to be received .THE REMOTE COMPUTER CAN ALSO INITIATE COMMANDS
10. To transmit a file from the remote computer to the local computer, simply issue the TRANSMIT SLAVE command at the host computer and use the FILELINK TRANSMIT command at the remote computer. In-house testing revealed that transferring files from remote to host was restricted to baud rates of 38400 or less. Use the FILELINK SETUP command to reset the baud rate to 38400.
11. For daily use simply issue the command FILELINK SLAVE at the remote computer and it is ready to work with the host computer.
