Q: What is the most current version of CDOS?
A: Version 3.10 R1, which was released in 03/1xxxx.
Q: How can I update to the most current version?
A: Call our sales department at (800) 487-2243 to get pricing on
updates. You can also email the sales department at sales@concurrent-controls.com
Q: If I need support, how do I know if I'm eligible?
A: If your product was purchased within the last 90 days, free technical support will be provided. Otherwise, technical support is available at a rate of $150/hour, billed in 15 minute increments. Unless prior billing arrangements have been made, you will need a VISA or Mastercard when you place your call for assistance.
Q: Does CDOS support the year 2000?
A:Please view the Year 2000 impact sheet
for all CCI, DRI, and Novell Multiuser Operating Systems.
Q: What is the largest hard disk CDOS supports?
A: The hard disk itself can be up to 4 gigabytes in size. The largest
partition has to be 2,048 megabytes or less. This means if a 4 gigabyte hard
disk is used, a minimum of 2 partitions of 2,048 megabytes or less must be
created. Be sure to partition the hard disk using the FAT16 file system.
Q: Will CDOS support the new FAT32 file system in Windows 95/98?
A: No. If you have a computer with a FAT32 file system on the hard disk
you will not be able to install CDOS. The solution is to delete the FAT32
partition and create a new partition using the FAT16 file system.
WARNING: Deleting the partition will wipe out all information from the
hard disk. Be sure to backup any valuable information before deleting the
partition.
Q: What is the maximum amount of RAM CDOS supports?
A: 48 megabytes is a good physical amount to have. If you have more than
that CDOS will not boot unless you're running the newest version of CDOS, v3.07
R6, which is set to not recognize more than 32 megabytes of RAM.
If you have CDOS v3.07 R5 or below, follow these steps to force CDOS to only recognize up to 48 megabytes of RAM:
Q: Does CDOS support PCI serial boards?
A: Yes, CDOS v3.07 R6 and greater support the following PCI boards:
Q: I'm having trouble installing CDOS on my new hard disk, the
computer hangs during the install.
A: It sounds like you have an Ultra DMA hard disk, which does not work
with Concurrent DOS. What you can do is go into the CMOS of your computer and
disable Ultra DMA. Once disabled, CDOS should install just fine.
If CDOS still doesn't install, follow these steps:
The one disadvantage to using FEATURE 20 80 is that you will lose 16k of conventional memory. 16k is not a significant loss and chances are your programs will still run.
Q: I moved my CDOS hard disk from an old computer to a new computer
and the LOADER prompt no longer appears (LOADER prompt is an F1/F2, or Y/N
prompt that appears on boot prior to any operating systems). Instead a
'MOVED OR MISSING IBMBIO.LDR' message appears during bootup and hitting ENTER
to bypass this message brings the system directly into MS-DOS, what should I
do?
A: Check the following:
Q: I moved my CDOS hard disk from my old computer to my new computer,
when I choose YES to the LOADSYS prompt (LOADSYS is run under MS-DOS, prompts
you for Y/N to load CDOS, and generally loads in the autoexec.bat), CDOS hangs,
what should I do?
A:You have to run 'LOADSYS INSTALL' to update your hardware information.
When LOADSYS is run it reads a file off the hard disk that contains information
on all the hardware in the computer. This information file is created by
'LOADSYS INSTALL' so when you change the hard disk from one computer to
another, this file needs to be updated to reflect the new hardware.
To run 'LOADSYS INSTALL' and update the hardware file, follow these instructions:
Q: I'm trying to install CDOS but during the install the host loses
the video signal and the screen blacks out. The system doesn't appear to be
hung but I have no video. What should I do?
A: It sounds like you have an AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) video card.
In CDOS v3.07 R8, an enhancement was added to support this new type of video
card. If you do not have CDOS v3.07 R8 you can contact our sales department at
(800) 487-2243 to purchase an update. Another option, instead of purchasing an
update, would be to remove the AGP video card and replace it with either a PCI
or ISA video card, which both work fine under any version of CDOS.
Q: Will Windows 95/98 run under CDOS?
A: No, you cannot run Windows 95/98 under CDOS. However, you can have
Windows 95/98 installed on the same computer if you use the FAT16 file system.
Be aware that when you boot into Windows 95/98 any terminals you have running
off the machine will be inoperable.
Q: Will CDOS run under Windows 95/98?
A: No, see above.
Q: Can I run older versions of Windows under CDOS?
A: No. You can Windows v3.1 in standard mode under our MDOS GOLD product, but not CDOS.
Q: I'm having trouble getting remote access working under CDOS, what
should I do?
A: Review the CDOS remote access setup sheet
to verify everything is setup properly. If everything is setup according to
that document, contact technical support at (650) 873-6240 or email the support
department at support@concurrent-controls.com
to troubleshoot the problem.
