Most modems will respond to a common set of basic programming commands. This common set is listed below. When you use any of these commands, you will receive either an error or an OK message. If you get an error message, this means your modem does not support this particular command; if you get an OK message your modem accepts and is responding to this command.

  • ATZ     Resets modem.
  • ATF1     Selects full duplex operation (simultaneous bi-directional transmission). Default value for all modems
  • ATE1     Causes commands to be echoed on the screen.
  • AT&C1     Causes DCD to track the received carrier signal.
  • AT&D3     This command causes the modem to go back on-hook and disable auto-answer on the ON-to-OFF transition of DTR. Auto-answer will be reenabled(if it was disabled) when DTR is turned back on.
  • AT&L0     Selects standard telephone line. (default for all modems)
  • AT&L1     Selects leased line. (This is required if you have a leased line
  • AT&E1     Puts the modem into auto reliable mode know MNP (hardware error correction).
  • AT\N3     Puts the modem into auto reliable mode known as MNP.
  • ATS0=1     Sets the modem to auto-answer the phone after 1 ring. this can be adjusted from 0 to 255 rings.
  • ATS7=30     Sets the modem to time out after 30 seconds if no carrier is found. This can be adjusted from 1 to 255 seconds.
  • AT&W0     Saves all your AT commands into non volatile memory chip if you have one, or else you will ge an error message.
Special Notes: Use AT&E1 for Multitech and use AT\N3 for Practical Peripherals
